This approx 3ft piece of driftwood was on the shore at Cranes Beach Massachusetts on the peninsula accessed by boat. My son (10) found it soaked and dragged it back to the boat. He then charged me $50 for the bare driftwood piece because he saw the potential and I did as well, so his savings is growing! I love that he sees what lost things from the ocean, that may have been forgotten, can possibly become a piece of art. Most of the shape is natural, I carved, woodburned, added a piece of local seaglass for the eye, painted and sealed this piece. The background scenes are the historic Motif#1 and Twin lighthouses on Thacher Island (Rockport, Ma) and a schooner sailing ship. There are sturdy hangers on the back side. Since Miles (my son) found it, I thought an appropriate name would be 'Nautical Miles'. It's a one of a kind piece that will surely add to your home or rental property and sure to be a conversation!
